Luz Van den Bruel
Luz Van den Bruel (°1997) studied history at KU Leuven. Her MA Thesis focused on the portrayal of Native American languages in French and English travelogues (1534–1630). She is currently working on the FWO project ‘Languages Writing History: the Impact of Languages Studies Beyond Linguistics (1700 – 1860)’ under the supervision of Toon Van Hal and Floris Solleveld. The study investigates a niche within the history of linguistics, before a clear delineation of the discipline of linguistics was present, primarily focusing on studies of languages not done to benefit early ‘linguistic’ research, but for the benefit of knowledge gathering and the humanities in the broadest sense of the word.
